HalogenHalogen Lighting BulbsWhat is a halogen lamp? A halogen bulb is an incandescent lamp, but it is encased inside a much smaller envelope. Most last any where 2 to 10 times longer than regular incandescent bulbs. Changing a Halogen Light BulbSome homeowners these days are replacing their old incandescent bulbs with halogen lamps. The halogen bulb has been proven to cast a brighter and a whiter light than the yellow tint the incandescent gives off. Another great note is that they typically lasts about two to three times longer than the standard incandescent bulbs do. These next six steps will help you understand step by step how to properly take out and change a halogen bulb. It is important to follow these instructions properly! First thing you’ll need to do if you want to change out your halogen bulb is you’ll need to turn the electrical source off. Next, don’t remove the bulb right after turning the electricity off, as touching a halogen bulb while it’s still hot you can cause serious burns. Make sure you allow it to cool down before you remove it. After it has had a few minutes to cool down place your fingers lightly around the bulb, making sure you have a firm grip. To avoid getting body oils on the glass surface, it’s a good idea to wear a cloth glove or you can use a soft cloth. When removing from your lamp or fixture make sure to unscrew the light in a counter clockwise motion. You will need to continue to unscrew the bulb until it completely separates from its light socket. After you get the old out it is time for you to put a new one in. Replace it in the socket by turning it in a clockwise direction until it is snug in the light fixture. Make sure you don’t force too tight, as this could cause the bulb to break. Once you have your bulb set in place, turn the light on and enjoy the bright light! A few warnings and tips: use a light bulb gripper for bulbs in high places, like stated earlier it’s always a good idea to use gloves or a soft cloth, halogen bulbs give off very high heat levels, so don’t touch one while it’s still hot, you’re taking the risk of being severely burned if you do. Old halogen lamps become very dangerous if tipped over. If you’re using an older halogen lamp make sure you have a heat guard attached to it. |
