  • ANSI Code

It is a particular code that describes what type and the electrical characteristics of the HID bulb and HID ballast. Example: HPS Bulb. The code is assigned by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). It was developed to help in matching the HID Bulb to the correct HID Ballast. ANSI codes are for the following HID Systems.

    • S= High Pressure Sodium
    • H= Mercury Vapor
    • M= Metal Halide
    • L= Low Pressure Sodium
    • C= Ceramic Metal Halide

The development of Metal Halide Electronic ballasts has produced a need for clarification between Quartz and Ceramic Metal Halide bulbs.  There is some major differences in operating the two lamps.
