A Light Bulb is a Hard,Quartz or Soft glass enclosure that may contain a vacuum of an inert glass or metal. These are the means of light generation via filament or electrodes.

Incandescent light bulbs are gradually being replaced by law in many applications by CFL Bulbs, HPS Lamps, Metal Halide Lamps, LED Bulbs, and many other devices. These give more visible light (lumens) for the same amount of watts (electrical energy input). Many parts of the United States and Europe are attempting to ban the use of incandescent light bulb in favor of more energy-efficient lighting.

All HID Lamps need a Ballast to operate. (i.e. HPS Ballast) All CFL’s need a ballast to operate as well. (i.e. CFL Ballast)
